Frankly, the last couple of months have been crazy. I've built up an extensive list of things to update and opine (rant...) about - which I will try to drip-feed when I get a chance over the festive break.
In the meantime, a few highlights:
My research project exploring ESOL in Ireland during the pandemic has an extensive airing in the latest edition of AONTAS's The Adult Learner Journal (see publications for a link to the journal and article).
I attended the launch of a ground-breaking Report on English Language Acquisition in the West Midlands of England (compiled by Learning & Work Institute for the West Midlands Combined Authority).
I've almost finished digesting the recently published OECD PIAAC 2023 Survey and latest adult literacy and numeracy data for England and Ireland. I'll share some more thoughts in due course, but the tl;dr version is I think those busy doing cartwheels about an apparent improvement in 16-18 year-olds' literacy levels in England might need to reflect on the much less rosy picture for adults.
